There are moments in parenting when you look at your kid and think, “Wow… I get a front-row seat to this.” This is one of those moments.
My daughter, Lucille Ainsworth, is part of the official English dub cast of Little Amélie or The Character of Rain, the new GKIDS animated film already gaining major awards-season buzz.
She is the in-character voice of Young Amélie, the childhood version of the lead role. She is the in-character voice of Young Amélie, the childhood version of the lead role. That sweet, emotional voice you hear whenever young Amélie speaks on screen? That’s my Lucy girl. She brought every baby babble, every laugh, every tear, and every moment of wonder with her caregiver Nishio-San (my absolute favorite scenes) to life.

About the Film
If you haven’t seen anything about this film yet, Little Amélie or The Character of Rain is a poetic, beautifully animated adaptation of the bestselling novel by author Amélie Nothomb. It’s been making waves everywhere with festivals, critics, animation circles, all of it.
A few highlights:
New York Times: “Lyrical, philosophical, and deeply felt”
Shortlisted for the Academy Awards and already showing up in 2026 Oscars predictions
Variety: already placing it in early Best Animated Feature predictions
Winner at Animation Is Film + nominated for an Astra Award
About Lucille’s Role
In the English dub, Lucille Ainsworth voices Young Amélie, with another actor handling the narration. According to the film’s official references, all spoken dialogue for the Young Amélie character in the English dub is performed by Lucille. Something pretty special for a child actor just starting out to be in a major animated feature receiving this kind of buzz.
She recorded her sessions with NYAV Post, a studio well-known for world-class dubbing, anime, and award-winning animated films. Watching her step up to the mic with focus and confidence was one of those moments where you just think, “Yep. She was meant for this.”

What’s Next for Lucille?
Only time will tell, but when I say she is so sure of her dream and already chasing it with everything she’s got, I can only imagine where she’ll go.
