The role she stepped into
My little girl, Lucille Ainsworth, voices all of the dialogue for the main character, Amélie, in Little Amélie or The Character of Rain.
Every emotion, every pause, every moment of that character is carried through her voice. And that’s a big responsibility for any actor… let alone a young one.

What people are actually saying
What’s been especially meaningful is seeing how people are responding. Not just watching it… but really noticing it. There’s been consistent feedback across critic reviews, YouTube reviews, and even social media, people all over the world mentioning her name.
And that part is still hard to wrap my head around. As parents, we always say our kids are talented. We see what makes them special. But she has always been different in the way she performs, there’s something very natural and unique about it.
She was meant for this.
And now, seeing complete strangers recognize that same thing… that’s been one of the coolest parts of all of this.
Alongside that, people have pointed out:
the emotional depth behind her performance
how natural everything feels
and the timing of her delivery
Some have even said it’s so seamless, it barely feels like you’re watching a dubbed film at all.
And if you know anything about dubbing… that’s the goal.
The recognition it’s receiving
Little Amélie or the Character of Rain has been recognized across major festivals and awards, including:
Academy Awards (Oscars) – Best Animated Feature (Nominee)
Cannes Film Festival – Camera d’Or (Nominee)
Annecy International Animation Film Festival – Best Feature (Nominee) + Audience Award (Winner)
Los Angeles Film Critics Association – Best Animation (Winner)
Critics Choice Awards – Best Animated Feature (Nominee)
Golden Globe Awards – Best Animated Motion Picture (Nominee)
It’s been one of those films that just keeps showing up in the right places.
Watching it from the outside
There’s something about seeing people connect with something they have no personal tie to. No behind-the-scenes. No extra context. Just the story… and how it feels.
And watching that happen has been one of the most meaningful parts. The part that sticks with me -
Not just the recognition. Not even just the role. But the fact that people are feeling it. That it translates. That it resonates.
A small reminder I keep coming back to
The other part of this, the part I don’t think she fully understands yet, is how big of a deal this actually is.
And honestly, I’m okay with that.
She’s just doing what she loves. She’s not overthinking it. She’s not trying to be anything other than herself. And she may not realize the magnitude of it until later in life.
But for now, she’s just… her. And that might be the most special part of all of this.
