Attn Parents: How to Take Care of Yourself Too

It’s easy to lose yourself in parenting.
Your time, your energy, your focus - it all shifts toward your kids. And while that’s natural, it’s also really easy to end up running on empty.
I’ve realized taking care of yourself doesn’t have to mean big routines or drastic changes.
Most of the time, it’s the small, consistent things that make the biggest difference.
Start with something simple (and actually doable)
It doesn’t have to be a full routine.
Even something as simple as:
going for a walk
getting outside for a few minutes
having a quiet moment to yourself
Those small resets matter more than we give them credit for.
Move your body in a way that fits your life
Not everything has to be a workout.
Walking counts.Stretching counts.Moving your body in a way that feels manageable counts.
The goal isn’t intensity, it’s consistency.
Pay attention to what fuels you
Not in a restrictive way. Just in a way that helps you feel better throughout the day. Eating regularly, staying hydrated, and having a few go-to meals you don’t have to think about can make a bigger impact than trying to do everything perfectly.
Keep something that’s just yours
It’s easy for everything to revolve around your kids.
Having something that’s just for you, even something small, helps you stay connected to yourself.
Stop waiting for motivation
Motivation comes and goes.
Most days, it’s about showing up anyway, even if it’s just a small step.
A short walk. A better choice. A reset moment.
It all counts.
Give yourself credit
You’re doing more than you think.
Even on the days that feel unproductive or messy.
Especially on those days.
Taking care of yourself isn’t separate from parenting
It’s part of it. When you feel better, everything else feels a little easier too.
Not perfect. Not effortless.
Just… easier.
