If there’s one thing I’ve learned after years of family trips - from magical Disney days to muddy hikes in Hawaii - it’s that packing smart makes all the difference. You don’t have to be the mom hauling five bags through the airport. You just need a system that works, whether you’re sneaking onto a budget airline with a backpack or checking bags for a big family adventure. Here’s my family travel packing tips so you can pack like a pro, without losing your mind. Family Travel Packing Tips Plan Your Outfits Intentionally The biggest packing mistake? Throwing in random clothes you might  wear. I plan outfits by day based on what we’re actually doing and weather. I try to also choose clothes that can mix, match, and layer. It saves space, cuts down decision-making, and keeps me from ending up with four pairs of jeans and no pajamas. Packing Cubes Are Non-Negotiable Packing cubes are the real MVP. I use one cube per kid or per category - pajamas, daytime outfits, etc. - to keep everything organized and easy to grab without wrecking the whole suitcase. How I Pack My Personal Bag I always tuck a small crossbody bag inside my backpack that holds my in-flight must-haves: hand sanitizer, gum, AirPods, and lip balm. For long flights, I throw in a little self-care bag with face moisturizer, a toothbrush, and an eye mask.If my kids are traveling with me, their electronics and headphones go in their  bags - and they can’t touch them until we’re in the air. It saves battery, prevents lost items, and keeps the chaos low. Carry-On Suitcase Tips for Family Trips For longer trips - like a full week in Hawaii - we either do one carry-on suitcase per person or one checked bag for the entire family. Everyone carries their own small suitcase and we share a backpack for snacks, tech, and essentials. My go-to carry-on suitcase is lightweight, durable, and has smooth 360-degree wheels that make airport life way easier. Budget Airline Packing: Pack Like its Tetris Flying budget airlines like Spirit, Frontier, or Allegiant? Your personal item bag is your only option for luggage. I use this under seat luggage  that fits a few rolled outfits, a lightweight jacket, snacks, and essentials. A Few Essentials I Never Skip: Rewear shoes. I stick to flip flops, sneakers, and one pair of dressier shoes — no exceptions. Always pack sunscreen, a stain remover pen, a reusable water bottle, and a mini first aid kit. Where to Stay in NYC with Kids For our trip, we opted for an Airbnb or VRBO rental instead of a hotel, giving us more space for our toddler to roam and the comforts of a home-like environment. If you are a wuss in the cold like me, pack layers for sleeping. It is humid and cold and those radiators cause a lot of moisture in the buildings at night. But let’s be real: unless you have a massive following and can post deals every ten minutes, it’s hard to make a significant income that way. I know there are websites and social media accounts dedicated solely to sharing Amazon deals, but that’s just not me. I believe we can be more than just one thing, remember. My brand isn’t just about product recommendations, and I didn’t want my social media to turn into a 24/7 Amazon promo channel. So, how did I finally start making money as an Amazon influencer? As seasoned Disney enthusiasts and proud Magic Key holders, we've gathered a potion of wisdom to make your family's journey a laugh-filled adventure. Buckle up for a whimsical ride: 1. Embrace the 'They Won't Remember, But I Will' Magic: Because nothing says parenting like holding onto memories your kids can't. But seriously, so many people will tell you to save your money for when they are older and can remember. However, your kids only believe in magic, like truly believe, for so long. Just think of it as a little extra magic for you! 2. Nap Time is Non-Negotiable: If your kid naps at home, then they should most definitely nap while you are on your Disney trip.  We have learned this the hard way with our four year old son.  That magical dream can turn into a parents nightmare real fast.   Plus  even Mickey naps (probably). So sneak in a midday siesta, and you'll be a superhero tackling parades and rides like a pro. More energy for you means you can save the screaming for the rides! 3. Bathroom Breaks are Not Optional: You know what else is not optional? The bathroom. Trust my experience, no ride is worth the parents version of splash mountain.    Plan pit stops, and remember, you know your kids best. They will be so filled with excitement they wont remember to stop to pee. 4. Wear That Button Like a Badge of 'Survived Disney' Honor: Dont forget those celebratory buttons! Whether it is you or your kiddos first visit, birthday, or any special occasion. Each one is complimentary on your special day and can be found inside at City Hall on Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland Park or at Guest Services in Disney California Adventure Park. They're like merit badges for surviving stroller traffic jams and mastering the art of wrangling lost Mickey ears. 5. Dine with Disney Royalty: Book that character dining experience! While there are character sightings in the park, the experience is different when they come to you. It is best to book a reservation in advanced. We pick based on the characters our kids are most into at that time. Below are some of the options. Even if you dont do character dining make sure you are stopping to eat throughout the day. Storytellers Cafe Location: Grand Californian Hotel Characters: Chip n' Dale, Pluto, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse Goofy's Kitchen Location: Disneyland Hotel Characters: Goofy, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto Plaza Inn Location: Main Street Disneyland Park (does require a park ticket/reservation) Characters: Minnie & Friends 6. Bippity Boppity Boutique: If it is in your budget, dont skip this experience. It does require a reservation which you can book in advanced but it is so magical to watch your little princess or prince transform before your eyes. That bonus tip I promised... Plan to get this done before the parade you want to attend. The Disney characters will LOVE saying hello to fellow royalty and it truly does make it that much more special.  7. Plan Your Day: Strategize your day. Hit the must-see attractions early, snack often, take breaks, and use your Genie+ planner wisely. You've got this!
